Dudhsagar Falls

The Dudhsagar falls measures a grand 600 meters from head to foot falling at a height of about 2000 feet down the cliff into the forests of the Western Ghats. The Dudhsagar falls appears to be milky streaks cascading down the mountainside. At a height of 310m, Dudhsagar is the fifth highest waterfall in India and ranks 227th in the world.

The falls has acquired the sobriquet sea of milk courtesy the clouds of milky foam which rises up at the bottom of the falls. Some credit the name to a local legend about a princess who covered her modesty by pouring a stream of milk in front of here. The sight of the Falls which looks like a stream of milk flowing along the mountainsides is out of this world and in the magical lights of the dawn it looks even more enchanting.

The place around the falls offers an attractive location for picnic lovers providing a wonderful scenic view. The clear and refreshing waters of the pool at the bottom of the falls is the ideal place for those who love to swim. It’s a tough climb which takes at least a couple of hours, but the mind-blowing view from the top is well worth the effort.

It's best to visit it immediately after the Monsoons from October to Mid December as the road is often inaccessible in the monsoon. The falls can also be reached by a train journey from Vasco or Margao. The road looked quite used relatively still, not your normal road. Be prepared for some tough and careful riding. If you are not game for riding, you should take one of the guides along or take the train ride.
