This beautiful park at Port Blair has facilities like amusement rides, safe water sports, nature trail around the lake, garden, restaurant and historic remains like Japanese Temple as well as a bunker. The erstwhile Dilthaman tank, which was the only source of drinking water to Port Blair, and the area around it has been developed into Gandhi Park in an unbelievably short time of 13 days. It had been developed in merely 13 days. 14 km from Port Blair, Sippighat Farm is a government farm sprawling over an area of 80 acres, where research and development programmes for cultivation of spices like cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, coconut and pepper are conducted. Gandhi Park is located near the Lieutenant Governor’s residence. It is also located near Shri Vetrimalai Murugan temple. The Gandhi Park is constructed in Dil Dhaman Lake. The park has an ancient Buddha Temple. There is also a statue of Gandhi in a seated position. Here children enjoy Giant Wheels, Bumper boats and Boat riding. This place is well suited for families to enjoy their weekends. There is a restaurant also in this park. Port Blair features cruise rides. From Port Blair, tourists and people of the Islands cruise to some Islands such as Ross Island, Hadoo, Panighat, Viper Island, Harbour and Floating Shipping yard. |
