Reis Magos Fort

Reis Magos Fort, constructed in 15th century, is getting a facelift with the Britain-based Lady Helen Hamlyn Trust sponsoring the project. Work has started over an area of 10,000 sq m but unseemly in a heritage project is a new concrete structure, rising to a height of about 7-8 metres with a staircase leading to a flat top. Originally built by Sultan Adil Shah, the Reis Magos fort was annexed by the Portuguese in 1760.

It was later used to house Portuguese army and post-liberation was utilised as a jail till recently by Goa government. Its ultimate use knotted in confusion, a concrete structure is being built in the 15th century Reis Magos fort as part of its Rs.3 crore facelift.

The Reis Magos church, present at the base of the fort, adds to the charm of the village. The fourth chamber has only the plinth left, but the newly discovered rooms, below the two main buildings that used to serve as prisons, are spacious.
