Rachol Seminary

The Seminary has lot of students here not only from Goa but also from various parts of India. The main feast day of the church is celebrated on January 1st and is dedicated to Bom Jesus. In 1759, Archbishop Silveira declared it as a diocesan Seminary. The seminary is associate with Father Thomas Stephen. Father Thomas Stephen was the first to arrive in the territory in 1579.

A seminary lies adjacent to the church where religious education to Christian missionaries are provided. It is among the first seminaries in the Bardez side and the second after in Old Goa. The college of Ignatius Loyola was setup here in the year 1580. Also the University of Arts, Science and Technology was established here by the Capuchins. The seminary is known to house the museum of Christian Art.

The fort was built by the emperor of Vijaynagar and Ismail Adil Khan, the Sultan of Bijapur in 1520. It helped the Portuguese to run their activities safely. Inside the church, there is a uniformed statue of Saint Constantine the first Roman emperor to convert to Christianity, on the richly carved and gilded main altarpiece.
