Shree Chandranath Temple Shri Chandreshwar Temple is one of the oldest temples of Goa. Sri Chandreshwar or God of the Moon is placed in a manner that it displays the visitor a fascinating view of the green valleys below. The present building dates back from the 17th century, but according to the reports, there has been a temple for over 1500 yrs. Though a major portion of the approach road to the temple is metalled, only a small portion before campus is provided with granite stone steps.
The temple dominates a panoramic view with beautiful surroundings around it. This temple dates to the pre-Christian era. That was when the region was ruled by the Bhoja Kings. During the festival days there is heavy rush . The festivals like Maha Shiva ratri are celebrated with great pomp and show. Shri Chandreshwar Temple perched on the top of the Chandranath Hill, can be dated back to the pre-Christian era, when this region constituted the part of the Boja capital of Chandrapur. The capital of the Bhoj kings was Chandrapur. Chandrapur is today’s Chandor. The main deity here is Shiva lingam. The temple atop the hill has been designed in such a way, that moonlight directly falls on the Shiva Linga on the full moon night.
