Shree Shantadurga Temple

The temple was built in 1728 AD during the reign of Shahu Maharaj of Satara at the request of one of his ministers, Naro Ram Mantri. This temple is situated at Fatorpa, 18kms from Margao.Sri Shantadurga is worshipped all over Goa and scores of temples have been devoted to this deity. The important deity of temple of Shri Shantadurga of the Hindu culture is located in Kavlem in the zone of Ponda de Goa of north. The principal temples of Shanata Durga are at Fatorpa in the taluka of Quepem, which is visited by thousands of believers everywhere of Goa.

The temple is set in the midst of extremely beautiful natural surroundings. Shantadurga is the Goddess who mediates between Vishnu and Shiva. The Shri Shantadurga temple has a rich and beautiful, earlier it was from Cuncolim village in Salcete Taluka, the Goddess was removed to Fatorpa in 16th Century during religious persecution by the Portuguese. The agarshala or the house of hosts was also built on three sides different from the temple.
