pondicherry

...............................................................................................................................................................................

Once a quaint, little French territory in TamilNadu, Pondicherry upholds its French traditions to this day. It is a town which, phoenix-like, rose from its ashes, after the British literally razed it to the ground in the 18th century.

Today, it has blossomed into quite an industrial centre as well. The home of the widely acclaimed Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville (City of the Dawn), Pondicherry still retains the original beauty of the French architecture,. and the tantalizing tastes of its Indo-French cuisine.

The Strand of the Pondicherry's Sea Beach, its Matri Mandir, Raj Nivas, Museum, Botanical Gardens, Institute of Indology, Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and umpteen Hindu temples including those of Muthumariamman and Velayudhaswami, can all provide unpretentious relation to tired bodies and minds.
