Sri Damodar Temple

This temple is situated on the beautiful surroundings of the banks of the River Kaushavati. Popularly known as Panti, the river is considered to be holy as they have medicinal powers. The deity was originally based in a temple at the exact spot where the Church of Holy Spirit stands in Margao today. It is respected by both Hindus and Christians alike. Shri Damodar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The main festival celebrated at this temple is Holi. Loads of devotees from all over Goa join in the celebrations.

It was moved in 1565 to escape the Portuguese Inquisition when the original temple was destroyed and The Church of Holy Spirit built on its site. The Shigmotsava and Gulal of Zambaulim is famous in Goa in which all people participate irrespective of caste and religion. The temple has been renovated, it is revered by both Christians and Hindus alike.

The Kushawati river is supposed to have great healing powers and many a devotee takes a bath here to cure themselves of bodily ills. 

The temples have been well maintained and deserve to be visited. The temples of Goa date back to over a thousand years. The Pallakhi of Sri Damoder is taken on every Monday. The annual Jatra is held from Ashwin Poornima to Vadya Chaturthi. There will be colorful fair, exchange of gulal, collective meals and the presentation of shows on popular legends and folk culture. Popularly known as Panty near the temple, the river is considered holy and is said to have medicinal properties.
